American Retirees Education Program (AREF)
The American Retirees Education Foundation (AREF) is a research and education affiliate of the NRLN that creates whitepaper proposals and retiree education materials.
The AREF, as a 501(c)(3) charitable education foundation, qualifies for AmazonSmile to donate 0.5% of your purchase price to the AREF. While some NRLN members currently use AmazonSmile and that .5% creates some revenue for AREF, if several thousand more NRLN members, their families and friends signed up for AmazonSmile purchases we could create even more support.

If you buy a new “Black Friday” $1,000 appliance, Amazon will donate $5 to AREF! No matter how much you purchase anytime during the year the 0.5% applies.
AREF creates value NRLN uses daily and it educates other national lobby organizations on the same proposals NRLN supports. You may wonder, why not just donate to NRLN?. That would be ideal but NRLN is a 501 (c)(4) lobby organization, not a charity, it cannot receive charitable donations.

What is AmazonSmile?
AmazonSmile is Amazon’s corporate charitable foundation website. It lets you shop Amazon as usual, with one important difference: the AmazonSmile Foundation will donate 0.5% of the price of your eligible purchases to a charitable organization — AREF
How do we shop to benefit AREF?
When you buy from Amazon using the special smile.amazon.com site and select the American Retirees Education Foundation as your charitable non-profit, a portion of the sale (0.5%) is donated to AREF!

On a mobile device, to activate AmazonSmile in the Amazon Shopping app:
- simply tap on “AmazonSmile” within the Programs & Features menu or Settings and
- follow the on-screen instructions.
- You will see products marked “Eligible for AmazonSmile donation” on product detail pages, because AmazonSmile only donates in the contiguous United States.
- If you do not use AmazonSmile for six months you will need to renew.
How is AmazonSmile different from the "regular" Amazon.com?
All products, prices and availability are the same. Your Amazon login and password and your saved shopping lists from past orders are all the same. You’ll know you’re on the right “version” of the Amazon shopping site when you see the word “smile” shown in your browser address window: https://smile.amazon.com.
